Description

Teaching is based on Waldorf pedagogy and permeated by practical learning, nature, and creativity. We believe that practical work strengthens students' thinking in theoretical instruction, and much of the teaching takes place outdoors in the park or forest around the school. The aesthetic subjects have a special position, and we have a rich cultural life with theater, music, and joint seasonal celebrations. The school day has a clearly structured rhythm, as does the entire school year, and great emphasis is placed on creativity and communication – students are given space and conditions to express themselves.

About Årsta Gård

Since 1958, Årsta Gård has operated an adapted compulsory and upper secondary school with a Waldorf pedagogical orientation. The activity is part of the non-profit foundation Stiftelsen Årsta Gård and also includes LSS housing, short-term stays, and daily activities.

The school is located in a scenic large park by Årstaviken in southern Stockholm. Here, 18 teachers and just over 40 assistants work together with about 75 students, with a shared vision to create a place where life grows. With experience, knowledge, and commitment, we meet each individual on their own terms and move together step by step toward a meaningful and as independent a life as possible.

About the position

We are now seeking a class teacher for middle school in our adapted compulsory school starting from the autumn term of 2026, who can take great responsibility for the quality of teaching and operations, in a small class with few students with extensive care needs, together with experienced and knowledgeable student assistants.

You collaborate with students, teachers, assistants, and school and leisure coordinators. Teachers mainly teach in groups but also individually when needed. For students to benefit from teaching in the best possible way, a very clear structure in both planning and teaching is required.

Who are you?

We have an enthusiastic, competent, and committed staff group that works systematically and forward-looking. We are looking for a colleague who, like us, strives to develop the operation and contribute their expertise.

Personal qualities:

  • Good collaboration skills – you see the team as a prerequisite for your own development
  • You have the main responsibility for your class, but take great responsibility for communal work on various holidays, celebrations, and other joint activities
  • Reflective educator with a solid interest in teaching students with intellectual disabilities combined with various neurodevelopmental disorders
  • Relationship-building with positive expectations for students as a starting point
  • Inclusive approach – you are able to teach both groups and individuals
  • Receptive with a balance between clear pedagogical planning and space for students' own initiatives
  • Good understanding of the curriculum and a strong desire to learn new things
  • Experience of or curiosity about Waldorf pedagogy

Requirements:

  • Special education teacher degree with a focus on intellectual disabilities and/or Waldorf teacher degree.
  • Experience working with students with intellectual disabilities.
  • Experience working with individuals with severe behavioral disorders.
  • Extract from the criminal record is required before employment. This is ordered from the Police's website.

Meriting:

  • Knowledge of TAKK (signs as augmentative and alternative communication) and/or picture-based communication
  • Good IT skills
  • Experience working with learning platforms (Unikum, Infomentor, or similar)

We offer

  • A unique holistic operation where school, housing, and daily activities interact on the same site
  • A nature-oriented work environment by Årstaviken with park, forest, and gardens as part of teaching
  • Engaged and competent colleagues
  • A non-profit organization where quality and long-term perspective are central
  • Wellness allowance and employee support
