Description

The Crime Victim Compensation and Support Authority is Sweden's expert authority on victim support issues. The authority works to improve information and support for those who have been victims of crime by deciding on criminal injury compensation to victims, recovering paid compensation from perpetrators, funding research and victim-focused projects through the Crime Victim Fund, and serving as a knowledge center on victim issues. The authority is located in central Umeå.

An important part of a victim's redress is the right to compensation. At the authority's criminal injury unit, over 14,000 cases regarding criminal injury compensation are processed each year, and we decide annually on compensation to victims of more than SEK 280 million. The processing is carried out by decision-makers in collaboration with preparation lawyers and preparation assistants.

Changes in criminal and compensatory law have affected both the number of applications for criminal injury compensation and our practice formation. We are therefore now strengthening our unit with one or more lawyers with clerkship experience to work as decision-makers at the authority's criminal injury unit.

We are looking for someone with a law degree and clerkship experience. The cases we process require that you have good knowledge of criminal law and tort law. Since the cases often involve compensation-related complex issues, particularly good knowledge of tort law is a merit. Experience from courts, law firms, insurance companies, or the Swedish Prosecution Authority may also be meritorious. The tasks require, in addition to good legal knowledge, the ability to work at a high pace with maintained accuracy and the ability to work both independently and in a group.

The work involves, in addition to decision-making in criminal injury cases, also presenting cases and review cases for, among others, the Director General and the Board of Criminal Injury Compensation. Another task is to prepare and present referrals that the authority must respond to.

Working at the Crime Victim Compensation and Support Authority involves frequent contact with people in crisis, and we therefore place great emphasis on your personal qualities.

The recruitment is for a permanent position with a probationary period, full-time. Start as agreed. We apply individual salary setting. We strive for diversity and an even gender distribution.

Please submit your application no later than May 24, 2026, by post to the Crime Victim Compensation and Support Authority, Box 470, 901 09 Umeå.

Attach customary application documents including relevant grades and references, and state your salary expectations. Mark your application with ref. no. P 5/26.

We have carefully chosen recruitment channels and therefore kindly decline contact from advertising and recruitment companies.
